Hello, I’m new to saltwater tanks and started cycling my tank for a week now. I have a ten gallon with sand, live rock, and then I put some fish food in for ammonia. It’s been a week and I must be tripping but it looks like it is cycled.
I never saw any nitrite at any point but it clearly looks like I have nitrates.
I don’t know if I’m doing something wrong or reading the test kit incorrectly. Anyone got any advice or know what is wrong?

If you added real live rock then it is possible the bacteria on it converted the ammonia with nitrates as the end product. :)

What test kit are you using?

hes using api, get salifert ammonia kits, api gives false/ghosted readings(meaning that instead of it showing 0ppm ammonia, it shows 0.25ppm)

yea i agree with the live rocks, that'd def cycle the tank within a wk and def NOT with "life" or dry rocks.
