Cycling a new Biocube 32

Thank you , would you happen to have any ideas on how to get the baby brine in the cup without taking the whole cup out and causing a huge siphon that’s what makes all of them fly in a cloud like that hahah, also should I cut down on the brine shrimp baby feedings or will this be oky and not cause a huge nutrient spike? I feel like it wouldn’t since there are fresh hatched and do get sucked into the floss
So update to this, I was thinking about a way to make a cup feeder that I don’t have to take out of the tank constantly and I came up with this which worked pretty well today. It’s a little container cup for food that I cut through the middle to make a hole where the mesh would be, I also drilled a hole in the cup with enough space to fit in some airline tubing. I put some empty snail shells inside so the cup wouldn’t float up, I stretched the mesh as tight as I could over the cup and then screwed the top on, this keeping the mesh tight and also holding it in place at that tightness(forgot to mention it works better with a screw top container) . So the airline tubing comes up high enough to be accessible just over the water and I keep it in place by using a rubber band to hold it to the return pump( is there any way the rubber band could leak something harmful?). Now I harvest my brine shrimp and rinse them and put them in a holding cup which I take over to the tank and use my small Baster thing lol to push the brine in clean tank water down the airline tubing and into the cup. I pushed a bit more water down into the tubing at the end of inserting the shrimp to make sure they all went in the cup and it worked! I got ALOT of shrimp in the cup and none into the tank by dipping a cup in and out of it, I also use a very small Baster to suck up the brine cleanly with no eggs thus a clean transfer into the cup keeping it clean. Everyone seems to love it and the ones that get out get hunted by the dragonet and she also goes on top of the cup to suck them out.

Some pics from this morning. Noticed I have another snail egg loop on the back side of my aquarium near the sand. Might have a lot soon.

Haven’t done an update. Everyone is doing well and my corals are going crazy. My two Duncan frags have atleast 3 polyps each starting to emerge, my blasto finally grew it’s 3 polyps out, my toadstool is getting big, rainbow anemone is doing well and my frogspawn has about 3 polyps also. All fish are good and healthy, loving the brine shrimp cup I made up. Tank is crystal clear and I get little to no algea on the glass, and barely any buildup on the sand, my Sunkist bounce is getting BIG, and I also noticed a small spot next to my Neptune bounce and it turns out the guy who sold it to me must have not seen it because I have two Neptune bounce mushroom for the price of one! I noticed when I fed my corals today that the second smaller bounce curled up as it caught some reef frenzy and rod feed mix, never notice it before but cool! Maybe I can frag it later! Also sand is clear and my snail babies hatched but I have yet to see any babies I wonder if they got siphoned out during the water change? Here’s a full tank shot for today and a meme to keep this thread happy during hard times. @Isiah1820 - how’s the tank and how’s the pod cultivation go?

PS- Follow my tanks Instagram @Raging_Reef
Great wokr @Daniel266jz and glad I read this thread. I was guided by @brandon429 early on back 2 years ago and everything he helped me with was on the button. I stepped back a little and now wish I hadn't, however I will bring my tank back with some CPR once again after reading this thread. I will also document it on my thread just for the journey, you cannot beat a hands on approach to reefing for sure. Congrats on getting this set up this far and it's neat for sure, some decent effort buddy. I will tag you in my thread and hit you up on IG too

Right now I will be prepping Brandon to come assist ;)

Thank you! Can’t wait to see your tank and follow another one of Brandon’s “students” lol

@brandon429 , Any idea why my tanks water looks cloudy? I have barely to none glass algea and not big buildup on the sand, any ideas? 5 gallon water change coming for Saturday.

Ahh the good old days! I started out just like you my friend.. and now after my biocube and another 91 gal.. lol

Oh no it’s usually clear up from spawning same day. What’s ammonia reading?
Haven’t taken a reading but I was watching my tank all afternoon and all fish look fine, all corals are alive, I don’t see anything dead that could cause this. As I said no algea on glass and no buildups on sand so I am stumped.

Yes I see your thought, and quite frankly if everything is alive and well I guess ammonia isn't an issue. For precaution it may be worth just administering a test though to play safe. If the reading in trace, 0.25ppm then I would next think it's bacterial bloom. Have you put phyto in to diversify?

Hello all! My name is Daniel from Florida and I’m starting to get into the reef hobby. I have been cycling my tank for two weeks now and logging it into an app. I have recently been gifted a live rock with some good amount of coralline on it. I also got some water from and established tank. My ammonia gets eaten very quickly but my nitrites are super high. Will this rock help speed up the process and help coralline spread? I used dry sand and dried rock, and I’m doing a fishless cycle. Oh and no lights during this whole cycle.

Thank you.
