Hi everyone, I recently cycled a 55G with DR. TIMS pure ammonia and same brand of Nurtifying Bacteria ( 60 LBS of LIVE SAND, 50 LBS OF DRY BASE ROCK, 1 70g mechanical canister and 1 45g media canister FILTER ) Followed the directions on Dr. Tims aquatics website and I have never seen something go so smoothly when it comes to saltwater, I set up a 20g for QT with ( 20 LBS of LIVE SAND, 15 LBS of DRY BASE ROCK and a 55g media/mechanical Canister FILTER) and followed the same steps.
With the 55g the Ammonia was gone in 24hrs and on day 2 the Nitrite was gone.
Dosed again and with 24 hrs Amm and Trite were both under 0.2 within 24 hours
20g ammonia gone in 24 hrs but on day 2 nitrite still above 1PPM, Day 3 & 4 nitrite still above 1PPM
Did a 10G water change which the tank only took 15G to begin with and bought another bottle of nitrifying bacteria, Dosed tank with Ammonia and added the bacteria, 24 hrs ammonia 0, 48 and 72 ammonia 0 Nitrite above 1PPM.
Why will my nitrite not break down to Nitrate?????
Please help, Need this tank cycled before buying anything for the 55 so I can QT each new addition.
Thank you.
