This question may seem crazy but I'm converting a freshwater tank to salt and its got a built in filter system that has those clay things for bio filtration. Can I use those in the salt tank and will the beneficial bacteria stay alive in the salt water or is this just a crazy idea? I could chuck them but I thought it may help cycle the tank if I left them in there.

Anyone know for sure?

No, that bacteria will surely die and the media itself most likely has absorbed some form of heavy metal that would be beneficial for plant life but toxic for sea life.
