I'm not sure on the bacteria being in the air honestly. What I do know and what I have always done is to seed the system with a cup of live sand or add live rock from a stable system. Bio spira will indeed help but I doubt it will lower your cycle period by a huge amount.

You should take the straw out in my opinion.

How long has your tank been cycling?

bout a week with the rinsed sand bout 9 days with the boiled rock think i'll buy 10 to 20lbs of live sand and biospira when i get my hood this weekend

Agreed on the removal of the straw. Oxygen from surface disturbance (ripples) will be sufficient for nitrifying bacteria to do their job. Bubbles in the display tank will encourage salt creep and increase the potential for electrical hazards.

also is one 400gph marineland good enought for water current or do i need another on

sweet didn't know you could use filter media from freshwater tank to seed granny has 29 gal been going for years think i'll swipe some rock's

Depending on the type of corals you wish to keep, the amount of flow needed may vary greatly. For example on the forereef, the waves are crushing and turbulent (sps tend to do better here). On the aftreef, the waves are still strong, but not nearly as much (sps, softies and some lps do well here). In lagoons and estuaries, the flow is greatly reduced, and soft corals such as mushrooms and polyps along with lps such as Euphyllids and Trachypyllias do better here.

For example, my 75g tank flows at a rate of nearly 90 times the tank water volume per hour (6500gph!)

guess i'll keep it to frogspawn, braincoral, and polyps, oh and mushrooms....maybe i could fry em up lol j/k
