cycling media in filter sock to reduce "pests"

I don't have too many "pests" (knock on wood), namely I have a lot of pineapple sponges, spirobid worms, red micro feather dusters (kind of cool actually), and the occasional vermetid snail. I want to cycle some media for an upcoming upgrade I have planned but want to take as few hitchhikers as possible.

think placing media inside a drawstring filter sock would in anyway limit the hitchhikers attaching to the media, while still allowing bacteria to grow? thoughts?

Large pests yes. Disease such as ich or velvet no.
