Team,

I am in the second week of cycling my 55 gallon aquarium using Red Sea's Reef Mature Starter Kit. In the instructions it says I should be seeing green filamentous algae, cyanobacteria and diatoms after 4-5 days. So far I only see what looks like white stuff growing everywhere in the tank. The rocks are covered as well. Hopefully the pictures show it accurately.

Is this normal?

Thanks for helping out the newbie!

Looks bacterial to me. At this point, I would just scrape it off the glass and stay the course.

Thanks, it is covering everything to include the rocks. Sounds like I shouldn't be worried?

Get a turkey baster and blow it all off and scrape it from the glass. You have a reef tank now... you will always be worried lol! Just keep an eye on it. Could be bacterial or it could be the start of algae somehow. Once your tank has cycled you can slowly start to stock it. Keep following as the Red Sea's Reef Mature Starter Kit directions states.
