Cycling new tank - could use a little input

Brandon - peaches is still doing . He ate 5 pellets this evening after eating 3 this morning .

Do you think I could go ahead and get another clown and the shrimp this weekend ?

And day three has came and gone . Peaches is still doing well.
Thanks for all the advice - I’m hoping that it will be okay to get another clown this weekend. And maybe a small piece or coral

It should be fine to get a coral and another clown and shrimp on Sunday. Coral banded is a pretty cool shrimp. The other kinds I’ve had always steal food from my corals.

A coral may be ok too if you get something really hardy. I wouldn’t buy SPS because tank is too new (not yet stable), but a frag of some LPS may be fine.

Make sure to get a good dip so you don’t add anything bad. Also, Look at the tanks you are getting the coral from and make sure you don’t see any aiptasia.

I am thinking about trying a Duncan . Do you think that would be a good bet ?

That was one of my first corals. It’s my favorite, and grown from 2 heads to this.

I just was walking by the tank and noticed a bunch of brown spots on the sand bed —- I’m guessing I’m abo. To go through diatom bloom ? Kinda hard to see caus of the evening blues.

if so, would this be the good time to add a cleaning crew ? Also, does this change my plan of getting another clown and a coral tomorrow ?

A couple updates - I am adding an updated water test, pics of my new fish and a pic of my first coral. All seems well in the new tank.
I have a pretty large clean up crew coming in a few days - reefcleaners, which is a reef2reef sponsor --- really happy with their service so far.

Your tank is looking good!
Nice new duncan and clownfish

looking great! those little growth patches on the sand are the production from all the reefing lining up and looking sharp, very happy to see updates here :)

Payne also check this out, totally applicable to your thread

an entire reef on day one, bottle bac carried, using lesser bottle bac than fritz. Your tank is like him waiting six days to start, same outcome. He skipped the entire cycle, zero days to bioload management. It works too, those animals aren’t burned they’d all die if burned in the slightest.

what bottle bac does is amazing.
So is it ok to dose Turbo Start 900 day 1 then ammonia and bio spira about 7 days in? I think brs mentions this in one of their startup cycle vids except using dr Tim’s then microbacter 7 and then vibrant

Turbo start and bio spira are both bacterias. You want to pick one and that's it. Different bacterias fight to colonize etc, so I don't see the point in spending more money here. I used Turbo Start 900 and was good. Then did some ammonia

I used turbo start day 1 and then I used Dr Tim’s Amon. Chloride a week or so later.
The ammonia helps feed the bacteria - you can also use it to test how quickly your beneficial bacteria has multiplied by dosing ammonia chloride to raise the the levels of ammonia so that you can see if the ammonia goes back to zero after 24 hours.

You can dose up to five times the recommended amount for turbo start -
I would personally only choose one form of bacteria and use it - I chose turbo start because I found so many positive reviews on it. It’s done great for me

Figured I’d update a couple pics of my tank - I need to put together a build thread

2 clowns, 1 diamond goby, 1 lawnmower Benny, a red marble starfish and a bunch of coral.

3 things of Duncan’s, 1 blue torch, 1 splatter green hammer, 1 Indo hammer, 1 multi colored octospawn, 1 fathead dendro, 1 toadstool, 1 devils hand leather, 2 neon green sinulara, 1 finger leather, and one Red Goni.
