would a filter sock from my dt be sufficient to cycle my 20 gallon qt? I don’t have anything other than rock but I need to use cupramine so that won’t work.

That would probably be fine. I would be ready for a 50% wc with a QT. Not because I don't think the sock will cycle it, but because if there are sick fish, I always am ready for a waterchange.

If you change and clean your filter socks regularly, I wouldn't think it would have much of a denitrifying bacterial colonization on it.

I use Bio-Spira in my QT when I set it up and it seems to work well. Every couple of days at the beginning or water changes, I add a little more to the sponge in my HOB filter.

Got no rubble rock? If you do, just put a bit in a aquaclear hob filter like a 70

I have plenty of rubble. Problem is I need to run cupramine. The rock makes it very difficult to accurately dose the copper.

The filter sock is one I kept in the bottom of my sump for this purpose.

+1 on that ^^^ works great.

You will end up using more cause the rock will absorb it. But will help with the bio load.
