Hey everyone,
I am a newbie in saltwater and deeply attracted by the reef tank. I started a nano tank (10g + 6g sump) with 15 lbs KPA live rock last Wednesday, the live rock came with wet paper coved and smelled very fresh (multiple crabs, shrimps, worms alive). Now it is almost 7 days, I have a few questions about my tank cycle.

Ammonia
I'm using Salifert test kit for ammonia, but it shows cloudy white since day 1, which means ammonia never exceeds 0.15 ppm, which looks suspicious. I also tested with API (freshwater ver, don't want to spend extra money to buy a saltwater ver. I think only color chart is different), it does show some difference:D, ammonia tops at 0.5 - 1.0 ppm. Now at day 7, it is around 0 - 0.25 ppm (it is really hard to separate color)

Nitrate
Nitrate increased from 0 ppm to 10 ppm

What would be the next steps? Shall I continue to wait until ammonia is exactly 0, or add some livestock like cleaning crew, macro algae or even corals?

You need to wait until ammonia is 0 to add any livestock into this tank. The live rock probably had some die off so when you put it into the tank ammonia was created and now the cycle is occurring.

Great decision to start your tank w live rock from KPAquatics. Ideally the tank water should've been cycled/set up several weeks ahead of time prior to live rock delivery to minimize die off. Keep an eye on the ammonia and do water change when/if it starts increasing.
