I have soon been cycling my red sea reefer xl525 for a week adding red seas start-kit with liquid bacteria and nopox. Measuring no ammonia, no nitrite and KH 8,3. Have some 60kilos mix of live rock and other rocks that has been live then dried and now in my tank for 2 weeks. Lights are off.

My question is if my cycle even started yet? How do I get a the nitrification process going when I at the same time dose denitrification carbon like nopox? It feels like a zero sum game..?

Have you measured any NO3 (nitrate). That’s a good indication the cycle has started. Honestly, cycling is quite easy these days with the bottled bacteria. I’d assume the live rock (if truly live) added in beneficial bacteria and food to start the nitrification cycle.

I haven´t measured NO3 yet. Have to get a test kit for that today.

Dosing Bacteria and nopox plus KH coralline gro according to recipe.
