So I just set up my new tank roughly 2.5w ago. Normal stuff happened like all the spikes and now I'm at the part where I got nitrate. I have high nitrate atm but maybe 0.25ppm of nitrite also, no ammonia present. Should I do a water change at this point or should I just wait for nitrite to go down lower. I got diatoms now too so should I start setting up my reactors and equipment?

personally i would just wait until you resolve all nitrite before you take the next step.

So just wait for nitrite go go down fully then do a 50% wc?
yes that's a solid plan! i'm not sure if you have test kits or not but if you don't your lfs may be will to do a nitrate test if you bring a water sample.
