Cycling Sand?

@loki I just might do that :) I will be using it in my JBJ nano cube so we'll see how that goes

@barb Thanks for the awesome vid, it was super informative, I don't know if I'll be able to get any ammonia so I might have to use a fish to cycle it, but like Mr. Saltwater Tank said its an infinitesimally small spike so I think the fish will be fine. What do you think?

You would probably be fine with a small hardy fish. I myself would personally stay away from adding one that is really sensitive even with using the Dr Tims, but that is just my honest opinion. I haven't used any thing like that on my saltwater tank so I don't have the personal experience to back it up either way.

I don't even own anything thats not hardy lol I'll probably drop my clown in there for the time, then put him back into the ten gallon once it has cycled.

Make sure to take a picture of your tank with a tupperware lid in it for the contest before you add the clown :)

Get the non live sand and save some money. if you are setting up a new tank just put it in after the rock and before the water and let it all cycle together

1. rock in first. I would get dry rock because its cheaper and there wont be any pests on it.
2. sand to hold it in place
2. water and then salt. you can mix it in the tank for this time only. :) its a wonderful thing

This may work for some people but I have never been a big fan of putting in the sand after the rock. I usually put in the sand then put in the rock as I can dig it in to the sand for support.

Oh yea I haven't forgotten lol I get my tank on Tuesday, and I don't have any tests in any of my classes this week, so Tuesday and Wednesday will be quite busy to say the least ;) (assuming my dry rock arrives)

A lot of work but a lot of fun also :D

I agree with no live sand...is it "really" live when it has been in a bag with no oxygen for god knows how long?!
