Has anyone got any reviews on using ATM Colony to cycle a tank? Reading online it says that you can add fish 24 hours after adding the bacteria from the bottle, but that seems too quick.

Would you be able to give the bacteria from the bottle a source of ammonia using other methods? Rotting food or something like that?

Wondering what the best way to cycle my tank will be :)

I use shrimp with shell on from the grocery store and throw that in... you might be able to add fish 24 hours after you put that stuff in but you have to ask yourself how humane that would be to the fish they might survive but the conditions still are less than optimal .. don’t rush slow and steady wins the race with saltwater

I also use a deli shrimp.

I would not add fish yet. I like to wait 4 weeks to let the cycle finish.

The grocery store shrimp is the most popular bc it's cheap and easy and no fish are harmed. Wait a few weeks please and do it right. I know you are tempted to speed everything up but impatience in this hobby leads to nothing but problems. Let your tank cycle, test your water, add fish when it's safe. Anything that claims to work super fast on a process that typically take weeks is usually bs. Remember You are basically trying to recreate the ocean in a bottle. Give it time.

I’ve used ATM Colony as have many people I know, and well it just works, and you can add fish pretty much straight away as per the instructions

There’s nothing wrong with throwing a dead shrimp in, leaving it, but it’s 2019, methods have advanced.

And welcome to R2R as well!

Thanks for the advice! Tank should be arriving at the weekend so will be getting it up and running soon!

im cycling my tank at the moment with the shrimp method its the only method ive ever used but im tempted to to at least try one of these new methods of cycling and see if it actually does speed up your cycle
