So i added sand yesterday nitrates checked out today everythings fine level wise that are basic for fish not corals. My question is can i add a small baby black occey this soon to see if the tank is good? I mean i dont mind loosing the clown because its partner died already in the bucket I had them setup in while my tank was being restarted

How long has it been cycling and what are the levels? Do you have any ammonia or nitrites registering?

But you could have Nitrites and that will kill fish. It actually causes them a great deal of pain if it is high. Do you have a Nitrate test kit? Are you seeing an diatom algae on the glass or sand?

You should not put that fish in the tank already...tank is not done cycling and that fish will be in a lot of discomfort. You would be practically torturing it.

What you are testing is indicative of the start of a cycle, the rest will spike shortly. Algae and diatim blooms are generally signs that the tank is done cycling or a least nearing the end. I am a little bothered by your comment that you don't mind losing the fish...if you don't want it sell it or trade it, don't murder it.

wait 4 to 6 weeks before you add a fish to the tank.
if you measured ammonia on the rise and then nil your nitrIte will still be there for another 2 weeks it takes much longer for nitrites to go away
after your nitrites are gone then you will be testing for nitrates.
so for now you may want to put your nitrAte test kit away till your tank has completly cycled.and fish added.

you may want to keep the tank in the dark to prevent algae from growing during this process.
do not add fish at this time its very hard for them to survive this process

get yourself a nItrIte test kit

have you added anything not living to the tank or are you using liverock
