Cycling with a fish

I'm a fan of Dr Tims and their ammonia. I've used it on several tanks and have never seen a down side to it. I'm all for patience, but I don't see waiting to cycle if it does not have benefit, especially using rotting/smelly shrimp.

the first thing we teach in this hobby is patience, so I would say your off to a bad start. just add a deli shrimp or pure ammonia and wait it out. it's the best and safest way to cycle the tank. many tanks have been ruined by rushing things. cycling with fish is old school and even a damsel doesn't deserve to be treated like that. if you must have a fast cycle, add enough live rock.
+1 Best reply yet!!!!!!

Yeah, I pulled the shrimp after a few days and switched to pure ammonia because I could smell the tank while trying to watch TV and it started getting gelatinous and gross to look at.

My experience:
ATM Colony & Amonium Bicarbonate (AB)

In 15 days my tank (200 gal) 100% Good, no live rock, just dry, base and MarinePure. I add a pich of AB, daily for 5 days...measuring all every 2 days. In day 20, all in cero. Biopellets from day 1. almost 2 months now, and is ok (at day 20 I add snails and hermits, at day 30 I add all corals and fishes).
Day 40 diatoms...day 50 no diatoms...right now all good...so far.
