Cycling with Bottled Bacteria

Here's a wild idea. Just follow the instructions on the bottle, or visit the manufacturers website and see what the recommend.

Instead of using "method y" or so and so said this, just simply follow the directions. Don't complain about a long or "stalled" cycle when not following directions.

I have used both bio spira and Dr Tim's, both had the cycle complete within a week.

Honestly the bottle and website were no help when it came to this. No useful instructions whatsoever.

well then, disregard what I said.

I know the Dr Tims bacteria needs an ammonia source and they recommend actually adding a fish when using the product. The fish will provide the ammonia for the bacteria to eat.

I purchased some DrTims ammonia which should be here tomorrow, I just want to make sure its doing its thing. Hard to just dump something into a tank and HOPE that it does its job.

Follow this. It’s real simple. There is also instructions on their site that will help you. I’ve done this four times on different systems and it’s always worked well for me.

Beware if you use their ammonia though, the number of drops of ammonia per gallon was not correct for me or others. There is a thread on reef2reef that explains this.

Thanks, I did see that in some research I was doing yesterday. Thanks for the heads up.

Proven - Fritz Turbo start 900 and a few pieces of Live rock

I used Dr. Tims with last 2 tanks and tanks were ready in less than a week. I added a small piece of frozen at the beginning along with a small piece of live rock from my sump.

So I got the DrTims Ammonia and its talking about drops. There isnt a dropper, its only a screw cap bottle?

Here is some more information about FritzZyme turbo start:

FritzZyme® TurboStart 700 and 900contains the most concentrated mix available of proven, effective Live Nitrifying Bacteria. Nitrifying bacteria can take weeks to naturally establish colonies in new aquariums while ammonia and nitrite can reach lethal levels in only a few days. TurboStart provides the proper balance of bacteria proven to rapidly seed biofilters, greatly reducing the natural cycle time allowing for safe, immediate addition of livestock. Depending on livestock loads, TurboStart can completely cycle aquariums in as little as 24 hours.
