Hey all,

Its been 5 years since ive cycled a tank and this is the first time ive ever used dry rock. I bought all 1200 lbs of the rock dry. I soaked all of it in 55g barrels with bleach for a month, then did a good rinse and let them dry out again for another 2 weeks before adding it to my tank. I added some liverock from a LFS to seed the system along with a bacteria in a bottle. Ive also been feeding the tank at the same rate im feeding my fish in QT wit LRS and other meaty foods. I even put a damsel in the tank after week 3 because i had not seen anything yet.(hitch hiker fish, I have no clue it got in my old tank)

Im now starting week 5 of trying to cycle the tank and haven't had the usual algae bloom ive had in the past. Maybe a small dusting of algae, but nothing like i had with live rock. Does it take longer to cycle with dry rock? If my tank tests come out at 0, could it have been such a small cycle that i haven't noticed it? Im not gonna add anything to the tank yet anyway, but curious if dry rock is that different in the time frame of the cycle.

Thanks!!
