Cycling with Dry Rock

I cycled mine 5 weeks in a rubbermaid trash can full of saltwater. I had so much phosphate leaching out of the rock it was a joke. Glad I didn't cycle this rock in my tank or I'd have algae from hell.

I mean duh ?

You could do what i did... go to amazon buy a gallon sized bittle of fritszyme 9 and pour the whole thing in... My 135g tank had fish and coral in 2 days later...

I do love amazon. Added to cart...is there a product thats not a gimick that helps get coraline going? Like I said, first time I've used dry rock in a tank.

Trash can cycle is a good idea I put 22lbs of Walt smith Fiji 2.1 dry rock and it leached tons of phosphate

Is it just me or does it take WAY longer to cycle a tank with dry rock? First time I've ever used all dry rock and its taking my tank quite a while to get cycled.

I started my tank with RRR and it took about a year to finally establish a healthy balance. No leeching of P, but I had to deal with Dinos, cyano and fluctuating nutrient levels for quite a while. I'll be setting my next tank up with proper LR, thank you very much.

I don’t subscribe to trite sayings. There’s lots of things you can do quickly in a reef tank, if you know what you are doing.
