Hello all,

When I started getting back into reefs about a year ago and browsing forums again I noticed almost everyone uses Dr. Tim bacteria or some other similar product.

When I was going strong from 2007-2013 most people were using dead shrimp or something similar to cycle their tanks.

What has changed? Are the bacteria that much better? Is it just easier? Does it make the cycle happen faster?

I used a Redsea reef mature kit with my last cycle and it went pretty quick, about 2 weeks. Only reason I used it cause it came with aquarium. I still use the old dead shrimp method most other times just takes longer. Dustin
