I've setup my new 250l tank and and I've got approx 25kg of live rock in. I've read that the die-off from the live rock will be sufficient to cycle the tank. However, I acquired the live rock from an already established aquarium so I'm guessing the die off will be minimal. Will this be enough for the cycle or should I add an alternative source of ammonia?

I am sure you will have some die-off, however, IMO adding a table shrimp and letting it rot will give the some additional ammonia to help jump start the cycle. Just my two cents.

Ok thanks. I assume it would be better to have a raw shrimp??

On the live rock I've noticed a couple of mushrooms and some tiny feather dusters. Are they likely or unlikely to survive the cycling process?

I just added a dozen live shrimp from the bait store . Lets see how many will live after the cycle .

With my 29G biocube I set it up with Live rock and the die off was enough. It was amazing to see the progression. Cycled in about 4 weeks.

I'm now on day 10 of cycling. Ammonia is 0.25 nitrite 0 nitrate 20ppm. Is it possible that I'm already cycled due to having live rock from an already established aquarium?

Ammo still high need that sucka down to Zero!
