Cycling

With lights off when cycle is complete you will get normal green film algae but not the cyno when you put the lights on.

Cyanobacteria (technically not algae) comes is a variety of colours and is caused by poor husbandry, excessive feeding, insufficient flow and excessive lighting.

So, my tank converted 3ppm ammonia into zero in 24 hours. What's my next step? Wait for algae and then add my CUC?

Well my NO3 is high, that's normal though right? Lower them by water change? Or the conversion on NO3 into a gas?
Yeah that's what you expect to see at this point. If you have 0 amonia 0nitrites and high nitrates then your tank is near ready for cuc. Any sign of diatoms yet?
20% Water change to lower nitrates.

No, checking every thirty minutes doesn't grow them either apparently. Started running my lights, just messing with my spectral controller. Trying to figure out what my lighting schedule will be. I actually have not checked my nitrites, didn't think it matters. As long as I have NO3, than I know I had trites at one point. So I know the cycle is in swing.

You can add fish and cuc Now nitrate won't hurt them
It's tempting, but I think I'm going to wait a little longer. Until I know my parameters are stable. Going to add a CUC once I get some algae, so they have stuff to eat. And fish, ill probably wait again until my parameters are stable, and I know the tank a bit better. Unless I cave. I can add fish once my ammonia trites are gone safely?

You better read up on nitrates on a little. Though the least toxic of the three they are certainly not safe for any inhabitants. Anything over 10ppm will stress animals and make them susceptible to disease.

Good idea.

I am new but from everything i have i read i am doing it with my lights on just so everything can start and grow, did you put any kind of food in your tank to fuel the bloom, i am at 5 days already and have algae all over, the first day i put one cube of mysis shrimp under one rock and the second day i put another cube under another rock, and i have put stability in it its a kickstart for bacteria.

hey web we should chat about one aspect you posted

the algae

it has nothing to do with cycling and everything to do with wrecking your tank later on, people are wrong when they equate cycling and early phase algae as the ideal process. algae should be removed via hand, by work, until natural exclusion systems take over just trying to save a flight bro some headaches :)

its true algae shows up early, but, that's the signal to begin de-farming post pics man lets see wassip
