I’ve done multiple cycles before but was wondering if you could just cycle a marine pure block by itself in a bucket of a gallon of water?

Sure can

water/feed/submersion time/surface area is what’s required for cycling, volume does not apply.

Of course, many people do this to get a head start on setting up a tank. Most just do it with live rock that they plan to use in the tank eventually while they are buying/building the tank or system.

Yeah I’m going to try this but still cycle the complete tank when I get it also to make sure

If you're going to do it in a bucket (with some flow, but likely little/no filtration) use household ammonia with some bottled bacteria like Dr Tims or Microbacter 7. You could use fish food or rotting shrimp as an ammonia source, but it will start to smell.

Yeah I’ll use a air pump with dr tims pure ammonia
