I just started my new saltwater tank I started the cycling a week ago all seems to be cool I used live sand and coral base rock nothing seems to be happening how do I know if it is really cycling and my new heater is set to 76 degrees Fahrenheit but my tank thermometer say it’s 81degrees will it be cool

Hey Rod,
you set your tank up using live sand and bleached/dead rock. the temp in the tank is what the thermometer says not what the heater is set at. Personally i would go for a degree or two lower. to know whether your tank is cycling is a matter of testing for Ammonia/nitrite/nitrate. to encourage cycling there are some great cycling guides on here and online. apparently water is incredibly able to adapt to support life. but we can help it. Welcome Rod! I would definitely go with the thermometer for your temp. Heaters can often be off by several degrees. As far as the cycle goes, I've attached a couple of really good threads that can help guide you through the cycle. Hope they help.
