Hello reef folks, recently acquired a red fungia plate that looks like a cycloseris to me. It is a 3inch specimen and displays good PE and colours and has a small portion that had old damage and that portion of the skeleton already has a bit of algae growth on it. This is my first experience with this genus and I noticed it expelling brown gooey matter multiple times throughout the day. It was fed yesterday along with the other stuff in the tank. So is this behavior the coral expelling waste or is it expelling zooxanthellae? All this was inspite of good PE.
The cycloseris /fungia is on the sanded in low to moderate flow. Other inhabitants are Duncan, goniopora, birdsnest, Monti digi, zoanthids, branching hammer, ricordea yuma and favia. All doing well. System is bit new (4 months) with about 47 g capacity and running 2 AI prime HD at 90% and 9 inches of the surface and at the moment on acclimation mode. Dosing afr through kamoer x1. Tank parameters are as follows :
Temp 26c
Salinity 1.026/35ppt (refractometer)
Ammonia nil
Nitrites nil
Nitrates 15.7ppm (Hannah)
Po4 0.03 ppm (Hannah)
ALK 9.0dkh hannah
Mag 1490 (salifert)
Calcium 410ppm (salifert)
Has anyone else noticed similar behavior? I ll be glad if it's just pooping instead of zooxanthellae bailout or worse. Thanks in advance.
