I have a meteor shower cyhastrea that I need to relocate in my tank. I've seen a number of them pictured on rocks separated from the reef proper. So I was wondering if they were invasive or aggressive or both. Is it safe for me to place it directly onto a rock that is integral to the reef structure?
Thank you!

Cyphastrea is considered a LPS coral, but to answer your questions I would make sure it is seperate from other rocks you don't want it on. It grows very well and will overtake other sps with relative ease when growing. When I had my huge colony I had it leaning up against a rock structure, but it was a good 6 inches down the backside of the rock that got very, very little light. It managed to grow down there and up onto the rocks and over took a red Robin stag I had.

I haven't found anything that slows this coral down; highly advise keeping it sequestered on its own rock.

thanks...I was afraid of that!

If it ever does start growing in spots where you don't want it to you can always smother it with some epoxy. I have to do this to a Leptastrea on a regular basis to keep it from mowing down some of the surrounding corals. GL.

Why not glue square tiles or ruble in between the 2 corals then when it gets close you just break off the frag and glue a new one in its place? You don't have to kill the coral and you can spread the wealth.

Yeah, I've done this before with the epoxy itself. Lately though I've just been using a stiff brush to remove the tissue.
