Cynao algae issues

Ok do you have a protein skimmer? you want to add flow and oxygen IMO go to ur LFS and ask for something to add oxygen to your aqurium do not get a tradional bubbler. what are your prophaste levels and nirtate?

Water tested this am

Did a water test this am. All parameters good. I am doing a 10 gallon water change during lunch break. I turned up my wavemaker yesterday and this am I found a dead emerald crab. I'm not sure if the other one killed him or not. I also had a hermit ripped out of his shell blow forward but I know that normal. I added a peppermint the other day and he is no where to be found since the day I added him. After 48 hour black out and increased flow, most of the cyano is gone but still have some. I ordered some more cuc and it will be here this week. I ordered Mexican hermits who I have heard eat cyano. I aslo covered both windows in my dining room with black out curtains.

If your having cleaning crew die it might be Dino... In that case remove the dead ASAP enhances the bloom stop water changes do top offs with kalcwasser... Some pics might help to see if it is cynoe or Dino...

I would say 95% of my cuc is fine, the one was ripped out of his shell was prob just for a shell, the emerald crab wasn't active since day one, since before the cyano bloom.

Maybe what you're seeing is a shed or empty shell of the hermit?

What I'm saying is that hermits shed or molt just like shrimp and crabs do. It looks like a dead crab, but it is just its exoskeleton.

Need help with cyanobacteria. 48 hour lights out, covering my windows and increasing flow. Any other tips?

you need more then 48 hours for it to all clear up.

also stop adding food during the time.

If it does not clear up then cover the tank itself to block all light.

The cyano will die off in darkness and no food being added.

After it has dies off, then resume with less lighting and feeding and adjuat so it stays away but everything else thrives.

And finally it sometimes takes more then one lights out to finally beat it down.

my .02.

ok lights back off, Siphoned all the slime out did a 10 gallon water change. Windows are blacked out and everything minus the one dead emarald crab looks good.
