Sooooo

I have a 70 gallon tank (display), I have a 20 gallon sump. And I have a 10 gallon tank. All three are connected through the sump. Which means both the 70 gal and 10 gal are going through a algae scrubber, gfo and carbon, filter sock and slimmer. My displayis looking real good :) (to me at least).

with my 10 gal I kind of let it go to try and let it act as a Refugium. Today I walked in and now it’s completely covered in a red slim.
Only REAL differences are the lighting and the 10 gal has a sand bed and the 70 is bare bottom.

so my questions are: why did this happen? What can I do to get rid of this? In the 10 gal I have a snail, small goby (little itty bitty guy) and a mandarin. I’ll attach pics of what they look like, and I don’t have parameters yet ( my day off is this wed). The pic also does not show the cyno break out. The 10 gal has a lot more growth to it also.

Its a good thing that its not in your display. When I had had it a while back, I ended up updated my older LEDs got switched to bare bottom and upped the flow. Your setup looks great, whats your parameters?

I don’t know what the parameters are, I’ll check on my day off. But the display has Kessil AP700 and the 10 gal has fluval smart (cheap) led. Maybe I should ramp up the flow with the small power head I have in there?

the leds should be fine as long as theyre not that old. Try to turn them off for a few days, when you do turn them back on either lower the hours of use or the intensity. Again this is what I would do, everyone has their own way of reefing.

Ok, I ramped up the power head, changed its location and adjusted the light intensity. With the way the water flow is going now, I can’t imagine the cyo to come to a rest and cover things. Again what I was thinking in my head is that this would be my make shift refugium.
