Early on in my reef setup, I placed a Meteor Shower Cyphastrea in an area that I'm not excited about any longer. Removing the rock that its encrusted isn't an option so is the next option to just glue over the top of it or scrape it until it dies back? How about controlling it with other corals? For example would a Torch win out if I placed that near by?

Torch, hammers frogspawn may sting it back, galaxea will for sure and anything else with in a few feet.
Maybe someone will have a nice suggestion.

Take a knife or something similar and just keep scratching, chipping, and irritating it. You may not be able to remove it from the rock because it encrusts, but, it will die back or slow/stop the spread

I have always wondered if you could place a coral on top once it encrusts the rock! Other wise I don t know why anyone would want a coral that just takes over a rock where you could have beautiful corals on it!

It would look awesome if you could place corals on the rock they are encrusting because they do make the rock look much more beautiful than plain rock!

Do cyphastrea sting?

They don’t sting as far as I know but they’ll encrust anything that can’t sting them back.

so Putting zoas on top is a no no. Could I possibly add zoas on top once they grow out? Can I mix encrusting corals like montis, stylo, leptos ect?
