Hey! I bought this frag on Sunday and today, 5 days later I see that a bunch of the tissue is dying on the bottom. It has been in the sand bed since I bought it. Is the bottom no getting enough light? Also, could it be from touching the sides to place it? Everything else in my tank is happy, Duncan’s, Avanssa, torch, Candy Cane and Zoas are all completely open and happy.

tank: 20g
Temp: 26C
Salinity: 1.026
Alk: 8.0
Cal: 390
Mag: 1485
PH: 7.76

Note: the first picture is what it looked like when I put it in my tank, the second is what it looks like today (I moved it higher in case of not having enough light)

My Cyphastrea don’t really like light they do best in indirect light, lower tank, partially shaded, cave entrances...etc..

looks like some bleaching at the bottom.

That’s what I read, but shouldn’t the top have been dying then not the bottom where it had less lighting?

Well my cyph likes higher light no problem.
I have 3 different areas it grows and all look different but grow well.
This looks like an issue of nowhere for it to grow. The underside will naturally be a lighter hue from lack of light.

I think you should glue this down to a bigger frag plug or the liverock and let it encrust.
Snip off the frag plugs peg so its flush.
Encrusting coral doesnt like filling in small gaps.

I moved it onto the live rock after cutting the stem of the plug! I hope that will help thanks for the input! The lights it used to be on were fancy LED’s in a frag tank. My lights are some affordable brand from amazon... my tank is a budget tank.

What's the best way to cut the stems off?

I use these. Push right up to the base of the disc and squeeze. Snaps right off with little effort.
