I have some cyphastrea. However, when i recieved it, it had already spread to underneath the plug. I have had since last October, and have seen no growth whatsoever, howevet it still seems to be happy and healthy. All my other corals on the other hand, have grown significantly. All my water parameters are in check, and its the only thing in the tank that hasnt shown that growth, so I was wondering if it was due to its edges being in the dark underneath the plug, and if so, how do i go about cutting it back so it can start growing?

Same experience as DeniseAndy
Mine did not grow for a few months then finally took off. Lower light is something they like in my tank.
Will it still be able to grow if the edges are under the plug? I'm a little confused as to whether it only grows from the edges of the encrusting, or if it can spread to any surface touching any part of the coral

It'll grow all different directions including from whatever the plug is touching. If you don't want to kill off what's already under the plug, just set it up a little wherever you place it. It'll then continue growing with whatever light it gets down the plug until it hits rock and will then spread out.
