Wanted to post another picture so you could see growth even better.

Here u can see the growth on the new one. Looks discolored now to the left of the frag, but it'll start to color up as it grows. Also u can see the remains on the plug starting to grow.

If it helps at all at this point, I have had two cyphastrea in the past and mine loved the bottom of my tank in lower light. I run MH and T5s and my par on the sand is about 80 - 90.

I agree, it is sometimes so hard to find that perfect light. I have had many a corals I had to move around and lost many a corals too.

Don't give up on it. I had a jingle bells that totally browned out and died. Threw the plug in my low light sump. In a few months it caught my eye with its new growth. Now it is back in tank.

And if you like cyphastrea, you may be interested in leptastrea too. Another lps with similar care of cyphastrea. Here is mine that I got at the same time as last cyphastrea.

Thats funny. Lol bc i have one... a jason fox john deer. It did the same thing its still kicking though. All the orange eyes or whatever they r called r still there but all the green is gone

I have only had the meteor cyphasterea, none of the other colored cyphasterea. Beautiful, fast growing, grows great in very low light and super aggressive. I love all the encrusting coral like montis, cyphasterea, leptoseris, Favias etc but unless I can find a spot to control their growth like an isolated rock, I am hesitant. Some of these guys just don't play nice. Sometimes I'll lay down a bed of epoxy/putty that they can grow on but that I can remove from the rockscape should I want to move or trim them.

That epoxy idea is a great idea should j e counter that. What happens if two different kinds of cyphastrea grow into each other?
