Ok, this is what I thought. It looks like I've had one too high up. I'll lower it.I had my high in light and were not getting proper color. I now have them hidden in shade probably getting 70 par and they are exploding in growth and color.
I know certain types like anywhere from 150 to 250 if that helps any. What are the general PAR requirements of cyphastrea?
Thanks.
Looks terrific. It's ironic... my tank is finally hosting acropora, and I have a JF bling bling cyphastrea that has been looking faded and blah. I probably had it way too high up in the tank. We'll see how it does in the coming weeks.Grows like weeds down in the lower part of my system

Agreed a shaded area is best, indirect light. Mine grows very quickly in that sort of senario. My Cyphastrea grows in the shade. In low/mid light is grows faster than any other oral I have, by far. So I'd say low to very low PAR..... Anything above zero lol.
It looks like the one I have doesn't, as it was getting 250. Now I moved it and it's getting about 80.I know certain types like anywhere from 150 to 250 if that helps any.

. My current system will be three year old in Feb 2018, and before then I came back from a 15 year break. Before my break like and as Dr. Sanjay stated in a article here " if a coral lasted 6 month we were doing good"everyone i talked too said they do well in very low light. but i guess they can take a rangeMedium to medium-high light; often at or near the bottom of the tank. In terms of PAR, I'd guess that translates to around 150-ish (guessing there; I've not seen any specific number provided)?
you should put that kit on the back. the kit that you add vinyl, and a ledge with an led. they look so good on clear backed aquariums like yours. hides all the equipment and gives super cool lighting effectsWith my present system, I have killed more corals getting it right. I run a simple system, dosing the Balling Method and have had more success with keeping it simple.

HAHA... Didn't even notice that.Low PAR, though they can acclimate (very, very slowly) to a higher PAR (200-ish) as well.
Also - you guys are replying to a 7 year old thread here..
Thank you for the advise. I have since broke the tank down, I am in the process of relocating then setting up a different system.you should put that kit on the back. the kit that you add vinyl, and a ledge with an led. they look so good on clear backed aquariums like yours. hides all the equipment and gives super cool lighting effects
