Hello,
A new reef tank being setup. Talked to my LFS for starter corals and was surprised when they suggested a green cyphastrea coral. They did also suggest clove polups and mushrooms. I am seeing that Cyphastrea can tolerate some lower flow and lighting.
Should I take the chance or just wait another six months, which was my plan.

I like to wait at least 30 days.
You need to have a bio load in the system to feed the coral. Corals need small levels of nitrate and phosphate to live. I like to think you are taking care of water not coral. If your water is perfect then anything living in it is also going to be perfect.

I would wait on the Cyphastrea. Cyphastrea is not a hard coral it just needs a seeded tank and stable parameters. Stick with LPS and maybe Seriatopora hystrix (birds nest) if you want some branching growth. A few months of stability and routine and you should be GTG.
