Cyphastrea, SPS??

So im trying to figure out if my Cyphastrea is an sps?

it lays between the land of sps and lps. As for care requirements i would lean more to sps. They thrive well in SPS type of systems

Hate to give a cryptic response but unfortunately the classification “”SPS” is cryptic in and of itself. It’s not a recognized scientific name so there’s not factual cutoff on what is and what isn’t. It’s a stony encrusting coral with thick tissue and medium sized polyps. Like low to medium light and appreciates feedings of small particle food or none at all. Hope that hekps

Now this is my fastest growing coral! Is this an easier sps to care for ive had it for 3 months! Does this mean i can try an acro or should i stay away for now?? System is 10 months old

If you find a cheap one go ahead. Yes. Why not. You'll need a deep water one or a generalist light loving One. You don't have a whole lot of light and most cyphastera as best as I can tell most prefer lower to med light.

Not sure if you're shopping local, but if you're looking at mail order, look at our friend boom corals. Ask him for the easy ones. Good guy for that.

It's a gate way drug. $30 for a frag.

Read the above post man. Try to figure if you've got 200 par for min of eight hours and if you can find a lower light one.

I have one I keep turning green cuz it's too much light.

If you have stable alk, calcium, magnesium levels and maintain pretty low nitrates and phosphates, I would say go for it, just buy a cheap frag of a subspecies like A. Yongei. They usually will do okay under lower lighting than most acros would like. However I would suggest you get some other SPS like montis and birdsnest before you test out an Acropora.

You might tey a Bali Green Slimer. Pretty easy. As for cyphastrea lower light.

Would buying another current usa light and run 2 simultaneously raise my par?

Yes. And with a splitter and a largeer amperage power supply it'll run on the same controller. So all you need is a head and $18 power supply.
