I already replied on your blog regarding this video, but OMG THAT GROWTH IS INSANE!! You should be referred to as the Chaeto Master now. I've seen this same chaeto tumbling system in place on a few systems before, all with fantastic results (granted you must have an efficient light source, get the tumbling right, and have nutrients available in your tank for the chaeto to thrive on). Really it seems like a very easy to setup and manage way of filtration that can be extremely effective. I'm excited to try this on my own setup. I don't have the room in my stand so it will have to go next to the tank but it actually looks pretty cool and mesmerizing like you said, and would be pretty fun to watch all the pods and micro life in there. A few questions: what is your light cycle for the chaeto fuge (on all day, at night, etc.)? What flow rate do you run, or how would you suggest dialing in the correct flow rate (i suppose it really depends on the tank dimensions and size if chaeto ball)? And what do you do with all of that extra chaeto you pull out and the pods/micro life within? Thanks, and again, very cool!

thats freaking crazy man.... i am in middle of new setup and planning to set up a cheato chamber.... how did you rotate the cheato in there ? and what light you use ?

can you please share a detailed video of the chamber with the lights on ...

Just watched your fish room/plumbing video you posted at the end of may. That is one crazy setup you have water going everywhere! Very nice though would love to see it in person.

The light runs for 12 hours at overnight.
Not sure what the flow rate is... maybe around 250-300 gph? I just open up the ball valve until the chaeto starts spinning.
You don't want it to spin too fast and break up.
I try to sell it cheap or give it away but a lot of it gets tossed. You can shake it out in a bucket of tank water to try to save some pods but you'll never get them all unfortunately.
I always feel bad about that.

Just noticed you used a Aquavitro Salinity bucket for the chaeto. Are you using this salt? Happy with it? I have changed from Red Sea to this one a couple of months and not sure I like it. It always coats the mixing container, no matter how long it is mixed it will be cloudy for a couple of minutes when added to the tank and it must contain some sort of organic so since all my LPs extend the feeding tentacles right after the water change. Anyway, just would like to hear from your experience. Thanks!

I love Salinity. Been using it for years and every time I try something else I end up going back.

1) It mixes well for me. Don't mix for more than 24 hours, per the manufacturer. Otherwise it will precipitate. I clean the walls of my mixing container once or twice a year.
2) It never clumps or hardens in the bucket. I hate scraping salt out of a bucket!
3) It actually mixes up to 1.026. So a 225 gallon bucket really does mix up to that much. Makes it cheaper than it initially seams.
4) Best bucket design in the biz!
5) My tank seems to like it.

I actually called Seachem and follow their instructions and mix for about 4-6 hours, but still the mixing container gets slightly coated. No big deal, and Aquavitro confirms that is normal and it happens at their facilities as well.

So I took my little minion reefer in training for a ride this morning... His first airport pickup!

I had two boxes waiting for me from Richard at Tampa Bay Saltwater.
One box was a "color refresh". More sponges and gorgs and stuffs.

The tall orange one in back, the red finger sponge in the middle, the orange lettuce shaped one below that and the yellow ball sponge up front.

Another red sponge...

This one is cool and I think a first for me... the formation is more flower-like.

A big purple sea fan in the back...(already had the other gorgonians you see)

This cool starfish...

And a big gorgonian and cluster of wild zoas that put in my mangrove tank.


But the big surprise and whole reason for this shipment... is in the other box.... but I can't tell yet!!!
I will be posting a separate thread for that.
If you're at all familiar with TBS rock, you'll be amazed. I know I was.
