d2mini's "Essential Focus" Mixed Reef Build

I saw it in person as I live bout 45 mins away from them and doesn't look bad. I did not need it as I opted out of a feed door. A hinge will work too but might take away from that clean look.
Oh by they way all your builds a awesome.
Thanks! :)
And yeah, it's more of a function standpoint. What I don't like about it currently is I have this separate chunk of acrylic that I need to lift off and put somewhere.
Same as when I lift the whole thing off the tank to do maintenance. I have to remember to take the door off first and put it somewhere. This may be fixed with the new design though, or at least to an extent.
They solved the problem of a fish knocking it off, but i'd rather just have it to where it would simply lift up and back, and remain on if i lift the whole thing off and lean it against a wall or something.

This is all minor though.

First Triton results are in!

My mag is low, but that's good after starting off with it so high it was off the charts.
I had just started dosing the triton mag when i sent off the test so it should be balanced out by the next time I sent off a sample.

The other yellow items don't seem too bad. I may just wait and see if it all balances out before taking action.

And just so you can see, Triton offers some explanation/next steps.

Great results. Don't bother about the yellows,
the base elementz will hold them at their current levels for a while.

Excited to see whats coming next :)

Best wishes

I read through the whole thread...amazing tank! Can't wait to see it mature! Maybe I missed it...but are you trying the new Radion G4?

Any FTS updates? :)

The plan was always to get them once they came out.
In fact, the information I had about the upcoming G4's was one of the main reasons I decided to give them a shot again.
But of course I couldn't mention anything.
I should have G4's over the tank soon after MACNA.

Any FTS updates? :)
Nope! haha
Actually from the distance of an FTS it looks pretty much the same.
But I have added some frags, so I do need to get some close-ups of those. :)

Ok well I will wait!

Triton doesn't recommend ozone or uv because neither differentiates between good and bad micro organisms.
But I'm not looking to run it in MAX KILL mode. ;)
I have consistently low ORP, below 200 mV.
I want to raise that a bit, keep my water clear for max light penetration, and break down organics allowing them to be further consumed by the tank.
And if there happens to be even the slightest potential of helping to keep disease at bay, that's a bonus. :)

Any thoughts on the reason for the low ORP? My tank is low as well but I'm not sure if it is due to the tank being new or another reason

I´m use a Söchting Oxidator A for the same task. My system is built around bacterial systems but the dose is so low that it will not harm the bacterial activity.

I used Ozon before (in my old system – also with bio filters) just in order to get a clear water and a dissent orp. You do not need any high dosage to fulfil the goal with crystal clear water,

I have tested activated charcoal before – but Ozon or an Oxidator is outstanding for that task.

My Orp is now around 360 – 390 mV.

I chose an Oxydator this time because Ozon will "eat" skimmers - no matter what the manufacturer says.

Sincerely Lasse

Updated under the hood shot. :)
The ozone generator is mounted to the side of the controller/doser shelf and the air dryer is mounted on the far right.

Also, don't remember if I mentioned it earlier, but I ditched the Avast Spyglass reactor and replaced it with the BRS Deluxe reactor.

And running the ozone the past 24 hours, just on level 1 on the dial, my ORP shot up to 350 mV, which is where I have the controller set to cut the power.
If I turn it off completely, within a couple hours it's back down to around 200 mV.

How is ozone hooked up? Are you using an air pump or letting the skimmer pull it in (looks like skimmer)? Why ditch the spyglass reactors? All questions for my current build :)

Yes, the skimmer pulls the ozone into the venturi.
The air goes into the air dryer first, then to the ozone generator, then to the skimmer.
I've had to turn the ozone generator down to setting 1!
And even there, I have my controller cutting off the power once it hits about 360 mV.
Well, that's where I had it as a test. It's now cutting off at 260 mV and I'll raise it a little each week till i'm back to around 360.
Don't want to do anything to shock the system.

So far the water looks pretty clear and one benefit that I forgot about from the last time I ran ozone is that there is significantly less algae buildup on the glass.

As far as the spyglass, I just felt the overall concept was better than the actual execution.
I found it difficult to rinse media in the reactor, and difficult to get the cone back on to the pump inside the body.
Also didn't like having to reach into the sump to to make flow adjustments. Just didn't like it at all really.
