Hi! D3monic here, Been out the reefing game for a few years and finally got the bug again. I used to have the nanotuners jbj 28gal hqi modded model with the actinics as well.

Also had a 75gal macro seagrass tank for pipefish and dragonfish but It always gave me problems and i was never happy with it. Part the reason I probably got bored with the hobby for a while.

Anyhow I digress. I happened to spot one the new 89watt LED models on sale on amazon for $500 which was the cheapest I have ever seen them. I went ahead and ordered and in less than 24hours it was sitting on my porch in perfect condition.

I was hoping on doing a more shelf style aquascape but the ReefWise in Lisle (chicago area) didn't have that much of a selection at that time. I ended up grabing two large rocks = 54 lbs together. Used one for the main center rock and took a hammer and chisel to the other and used it for the two rocks you see in front the large one.

here it is with another bag of sand and full of water. Johnny P gave me some probidio startup to try and so I went ahead and dumped that in as well. I really like the cave structures that unintentionally formed. Large rock also had several large swim through holes.

I was at petco picking up some random stuff and spotted sexy shrimp for 9.99 went ahead and grabbed the two they had which happened to be a pair.
They where my guinea shrimp.. so far they are happy as can be despite the tank being devoid of life other than them and the bottle of pods I added.

I have the following fish on order from divers den

And the following frags on order from Vivid

Looking forward to a few of these. Also will be swinging by some members of the Joliet area reef club and picking up some more frags here in the next few days. Looking forward to that strawberry shortcake acro and the ponape birdsnest.

Awww crap, I got a lot of qt tanks to set up tonight >.< Vivid called and said they was sending my order out for 10:30 am delivery tomorrow so that puts it around same time as my divers den order... Not to mention its a raid night (World of Warcraft thing) I called them back, all but the gorg and tabling acro where in same system so maybe just two coaral QT tanks. As for the fish i'll play that one by ear. Probably qt by the bag.... Or I'll get impatient double dip everything and dump it right in... We shall see.

I forgot how good Vivid's customer service is, Zack just called and said the strawberry shortcake wasn't looking that good and he wasn't comfy sending it out. Said color was browning a little. He's trading it up for a frag that cost almost twice as much the Blueberry smoothie acro. Just looked it up on the site and looks nice https://www.vividaqu...e-acropora.aspx

Starting the fight against HA. I neglected this tank for a long while and I'm now on track to start fixing it up. I have some macroalgae on order from live-plants and Fri i'm going to pull some this rock for a peroxide dip.

Here's after a few weeks of twice weekly waterchanges and manual removal. Still looks like crap but it's improvement

Need to get some new snails they died off during a diatom bloom.. either that or their deaths caused it. Stupid astrea

Yasha gobie

Looking at picking up one of these to use as a food dish for the mandarin and eventual pipefish I get when the tank cleaned up. I wasn't using one for the longest time and her weight has suffered from it so i'm going to go back to using one. In my old tank I used seashells

Until then I made a temporary food stand to keep the dang nass and crabs out while I feed. I just made it but so far they can't get up to it.

New order from live-plants came in today. Good lord Russ threw a lot of prolifera in there.

The new purple gorg

HA looking a lot better. I think I may pick up a seahare and a few turbo snails payday and put all the loose macros into a breeder box to keep them safe while he goes to work. Not to worried about the prolifera I never really had seahares eat it. Codium would be gone first 10 minutes i'm betting though. Either that or i'll try the peroxide dip and sand bed cleaning.

Used one the wifes metaless hair ties to hold the hypnea onto the rock until it attaches though may pull it off and put in breeder box to protect from seahare if I get one

Kinda white but sure it will recover. It was pretty chilly when it arrived

Bubble tip been looking much happier, omg so much prolifera. I kind of just stuffed a big ball behind the rock because I had to get around for work tonight

I'll get back in there and get wet this weekend

Anyone know of any good and free reef keeping apps that you can record your levels and stuff in, maybe even linkable?

Updated tank shot, looking a little better though the HA keeps coming back with the exception of the rock front left that I dipped in peroxide. I'm going to head to the store after dinner and pick up a couple turbo snails. Hopefully they put a dent in the red turf algae as well.

I Picked up 4 turbo snails and so far they are doing a good job on the red turf algae. Though one of them keeps working its way back to my blue hypnea. About ready to tie them to little leashes to keep them in one spot

Side by side of when I started tackling the HA and now. Still a ways to go but a bit of an improvement.

snapped a few pics during feeding time. A mix of mysis, cyclopeeze and some microworms (figured I try them see if the mandarin would eat)

Did another peroxide dip and scrub on the rock front left of the tank. Accidentally dipped my pom pom crab and somehow he survived being in the peroxide bucket for 10 mins or so while I scrubbed ect.

Quick update shot, Male mandarin looks like he got stung in the face by the anemone. Hopefully it heals ok and doesn't go necrotic

Some updated tank shots, doing a tooth brush scrub of any residual algae and a water change today. Got some macros on order from LA reef.
