Dear fellow reefers,

From freshwater i am used to start dosing co2 before the light come on, to have some build up, so that it is available to the plants when the light come one. Therefore i was wondering on how to dose alkalinity.

I dose now 8 times a day. My question therefore is, should i dose every 3 hours the same amount, or should i dose a bit more dueing the night? Or maybe during the day.

I look forward to the advices!

Christian

Evenly spread out through the day is best. You want stability, and not wild fluctuations.

With that said, some people tend to dose ALK at night to keep PH up, and CAL during the day.

I personally prefer the all day every day approach as it brings my system more stability.

Alkalinity depletes more during the day, so dosing then leads to more stable alk.

pH is lowest at night, so dosing then stabilizes pH if you use a high pH alk supplement.

Depends on your situation what is best, but more folks opt to stabilize alk. :)

Thank you:) i tested yesterday during the whole day. Kh seems to be at 11 before light come on, and drops to about 10 at the peek of consumption, than slowly builds up to 11 again at night. That should be more than fine right?
