Damaged Flower Pot Coral

Hello All,

I picked up a coral and was told it was a Flower Pot coral.

Part of the coral looks to be damaged and I am wondering if there is anything that can be done to help that portion of the coral recover or not? Also I am wondering what would cause damage like this as well.
