I just picked up this paly a few days ago. Placed it in the tank and in the morning it was open and looking good. I was feeding other corals shrimp so I decided to give it a piece. Later on at night I noticed that part of the rim had turned white. Today I am noticing that the white is spreading around the rim. I haven’t had this problem and wanted to see what I can do. I was thinking maybe a crab or shrimp tore into it trying to steal the food or maybe it’s just infected. How about an iodine dip?

Thanks, John

So it seems this kind of thing happens with zoas and Palys with little reason. I couldn’t anyone with much success searching the forums. Im going to prob try a iodine and then a peroxide dip, not really sure what else I could try. I did buy the vitamins C to dose if needed, could try that as well.

If I tried cutting off just the dying tissue would that likely kill a paly?

Parameters are good:
Calcium 450
Alk 10
Temp 78
Salinity 1.026
Nitrates 10-15
No amm or nitrites
Ph 8.2

I did an iodine dip yesterday and the spreading of dying tissue seems to have stopped. I also decided to starting dosing some vitamin C. Fingers crossed.
