When things like this are posted, are we thinking about how we are going to stock our glass boxes or are we thinking about the reasons why the government would feel the need to regulate....

Here they are trying to control things In our life. I have sent my comend and signature.

a hobby is nothing but a pass time.

Its not life, its a way to kill time. Its not the government trying to take your kids away or control the way you feed and care for your family.

Its about conservation versus feeding the hobbyists desire to have fish and coral in our living rooms at the expense of causing irreparable harm to the reefs.

Wrong!!
It's about the Honesty!
Nothing wrong with conservation from corals but as mentioned one coral isn't the other.
As we all like corals we are not all coral shoppers.
Making sure that we have the right ppl on the right spot will help the coral conservation and at the end this hobby.
But not letting your voice heard won't do any good in this hobby.
Hoping to see more real hobbyist understanding this issue and let your vote be heard.

Anything the gubberment tells you you can't do is controlling you. Hobby or otherwise. They aren't interested in environmental protection.

I'm looking at the regulations.gov page and they have 12 comments listed...there has to be way more than that. I read the article this morning and the numbers haven't changed.

For what it is worth my comments focused on the enforcement and admission that it is not practical to distinguish the listed species from the hundreds if not thousands of other species.
Using their definition if enforcement could not distinguish between felines so all house cats would be listed because Tigers are threatened/endangered.

Then suggested the regulations as written would weaken the law by diluting the importance of being "listed" due to inability to identify what is actually at risk.

Since "do nothing" is not the answer either I concluded with an alternative of moving to increase the amount of wild habitat within US territories and banning all human activity within them with the exception of approved reef preservation research.

Of course I suspect this will all end up in the circular file but same reason I vote.
Yeah I know probably won't make a difference but I have no right to complain about the outcome if I do nothing.

We need to get this stickies to the reef2reef front page so everyone that comes here can see this link and comment on the situation. Keep this at the top. Once it's passed it will be to late. post on your local forums craigslist facebook eharmony wherever the hell you can to get people to comment on the issue at hand.

Coral reefs are endangered by many reasons. Take for instance one example I have dove Cozumel for many years and each year there is less and less corals to be seen. I have heard that cruise ships are stirring up so much sand it is killing the corals. I really don't know but what about run off from the land where dangerous chemicals are being applied daily. The government needs to look at the problems and implement actions to cure these problems. As far as endangered species I do think we need to protect but we need to find the solution to why these species are endangered in the first place. As far as hobbyist we need to learn how to take care of these precious animals so we they can survive and flourish.

Government should worry about the whole world endangerment and keeping us safe. Global warming is doing more damage to coral reefs than this hobby and after all who knows maybe what we have in our glass boxes will be what's left. He should then tell Detroit what cars to build and tell us that we can't own certain cars cause of global warming and on..........government is about making money too and he is missing on this growing hobby. But we can complain and if we don't vote then we did nothing about it. So go vote like I just did cause after all this country belong to us not the government.
