Dangit! I've got ROX everywhere

So I put the sponges in my two little fishies 150 reactor put some bulk reef ROX in it but when turned off the supply pump some water back fed and now I have ROX everywhere in my sump and even some in my biopellet reactor.. Even with it running some bypasses the sponge and comes out the return line.

What are some tips to running ROX with it being soo small.. Do I have to empty my biopelets and remove the ROX or will it be fine?

I usually add a more dense sponge to my TLF reactor so the ROX cant get through.

I have had carbon and rawaphos do that I just removed much as possible in the sump and left the rest... I don't think it will cause any issues honestly.. A tsp ain't gonna hurt, but a cup or something might cause a issue...

been there done that, probably won't buy ROX again next time. Honestly it won't matter too much as long as you get what you can out. When you do the change on the biopellets, remove it then.

Exact reason why I don't run ROX anymore....just too small and its a pain to clean out the sponges after changing it out.

Now that I think of it, I might try to run ROX between the larger stuff...wonder if that'll work...like have layers in the reactor.

Had the same problem using a TLF reactor until I put in a filter floss pad. Should have ordered less, now I have 5 gallons to play with, lol.

Really common, like you I've had rox everywhere, even made it in my display one time. I triple up on the sponges and for an extra precaution I tie a media bag around the return hose to catch any stray particles that make it through. This method has been full proof.

FWIW, I ran ROX in a BRS reactor and put 2-3 sponges at the top which worked out pretty good...but it was just a pain to clean out all the time.

I moved from ROX when I had a reef as I was seeing negative results in my coral but might reconsider on this fish only tank.

What sort of negative results did you notice and how were you able to attribute it to the ROX carbon?

Mostly just poor SPS color and negative growth on my acans. I read a few threads about ROX is strong and might make it "too clean". After I stopped using it my SPS colors improved although my acans never pulled through. Its also entirely possible I was using too much ROX as well.

What I ended up doing is I put some filterfloss on top of the top sponge. If it gets clogs it will be easy to replace. When I change the ROX in a months time I'll put the two sponges below and have floss on top.

I let it sit wet for 15 minutes in my TLF reactor then increase flow very slowly over a few hours. That keeps it at the bottom.
