Daniel's 125g mixed reef tank!

It looks great I just got an aussie elegance coral I heard they are hard to keep? What do you do to keep yours extended and what are your parameters (niartes, cal, all, etc.) :)

Feed it lots, from what I've heard.

Eienna is right, feeding it weekly helps a lot. Although it isn't a necessity. They will shrivel up (and look to be dying after a large feeding), but it's just how they expel waste.

I don't test for anything but dKH and Calcium, I recommend 10-15dKH & 400-500Ca. I'm sure I have undetectable phosphates and nitrates.

I find them to be very sensitive to low temperature (below 74F) and high salinity (above 1.028ish).

The tentacle length is a great water quality "give away". If the tentacles are short, something isn't right in the tank. My SPS will still look perfect while the elegance begins to show poor water quality signs. I agree, they are rather hard to keep happy. But keeping happy and keeping alive are two different things. It can survive (it'll have ~1cm tentacles) long periods of poor water quality that will kill almost anything else.

And super low flow, mine doesn't like any basically..

Ordered an ORA black/white maxima from saltwaterfish!!

I had to pull the trigger. I don't see anywhere else online that has them for sale. I was afraid I wouldn't be able to get one later this month (when I was planning to do another coral/clam order).

I also got 50 ceirth snails, and some dKH up.

1/5 - dKH 15, Ca 440. Yesterday, dKH 7, Ca380 My tank is literally eating 1dKH a day now! I'm going to get an auto-top off at the end of the month and use my 20g aquarium as the rez.

If I'm loosing 1dKH a day, ~10ppm of Ca & and ~2.5g a day evaporates. I should be able to calculate how much to add to a 20g rez pretty accurately.

Saltwaterfish is definitely my favorite online vendor so far. But, they can't beat reefcleaners.org for snails. But the coral/inverts otherwise are always spot on for the picture and very accurate in described size.

I went home for lunch and acclimated everything. The black/white maxima was (tiny as expected)...amazing. Super black with white stripes, just like photos I've seen of other ORA b/w clams.

Definitely buying another one at the end of the month.

It's tiny, especially when it's beside my old croceas...But it's definitely black and white. Not white stripes, more solid black with white dots all over. Hasn't opened up all the way yet, but it's looking better today than it did yesterday

This is the picture I bought (for the ugliest coral contest entry). It does look at lot better from above, but nothing like the photo at all:

Holy ____, my ugliest looks way worse than the others. I might actually win... That bought/received comparison makes me feel bad for myself. LOL!

It's growing great though, you can see the "silver" growth tips. lol!!!

The blue one is looking a little rough. Kinda of bleached a little maybe. Hopefully it pulls through. Ordered a bunch of new equipment today including an ATO (so tired of daily filling!).

Ordered 25 ricordea, 10 peppermint, 50 blue leg, 10 emeralds & 25 astrea snails Sunday. And they freaking shipped them out today (2day air). There's supposed to be 8-12" of snow on the ground Thursday...... I really hope it all survives, but I'm putting my chances at around 10%. Jesus Christos!

Here is a pic of my 3 acropora after they've been in my tank for 11 days. They're very happy looking except the blue's base, which is browning out. He's a much thicker colony than the green digitate. The base is completely shaded.

My RBTA has easily doubled in size in the past couple months. I've been much more consistent with feeding and maintaining water quality recently. I don't like the look of them without the bubble tip. Lucky for me, mine is one of the more "bubbly" I've seen:
