Dark Black/Green Fuzzy Thick Algea ?

I have noticed in recent weeks this new type of what I am going to assume is turf algea? It grows in the cracks and holes of my rocks in some places . It looks very thick and fuzzy and dark in colour . I am colour blind so its either a very dark Green or black ?

Any idea what this could be ?

The only thing I am dosing currently is vibrant once a week . Phosphates have been 0.00 and Nitrates 10-15 .

In September I had Green hair algea and dosed NOPOX and got rid of the GHA in a few weeks . Then there was a period of 6-8 weeks of nothing in the tank except a little bit of diamtoms in the sand . My rocks look very nice now with coralline algea growing on them but I have been noticing more and more of this thick dark algea popping up and im trying to nip it before it gets out of control

You have whats known as green hair algae,
check our source water to make sure your topping off/water changes with good ro/di

i would lower your lights on time by half a day for a week, do 2-3 normal water changes over the week and throw a poly filter in your tank.

Your rock looks exactly like what I have going on. My tank is just shy of 2 years, and I get hair algae in the places that don't have coriline or the green, hard algae growing on it. I really think it's phosphate bound up in the rock. I used dry rock, and I think that was a big mistake. If I had it to do over (or when I start another tank) I would use live rock and not worry about the cost.

ya if your rocks have bound phosphates its almost impossible to get your tank chemistry right. The hair algea fees off it. If your using bulbs like t5 or halides and the bulbs get old hair algea can happen from that as well.

best to pull the rock and cook it (method of saltwater dilution) or lanthium chloride if the normal cures like water changes , food reduction, low or no photoperiods are not working

That is exactly my tank to a tee wow crazy. 2 years and 1 month old my reef and i used dry rock.

I guess ill just be patient scrape the algea where i can and hope coraline covers the rest of it.

Tested my peramiters again on the weekend . Phosphates 0.00 Nitrates 10.0 Been getting those same readings for the last 2 months.

How is it possible I am seeing Hair Algea and Diatoms with those readings?

Do tanks constantly go through ugly stages or is it just my tank ? hahahaa
