Hello all,

Is it normal for there to sometimes be dark spots on the Ctenidium or Gills of Tridacnae?
I feel like every time I have seen this before, it has been on a clam in poor health or near death.
Is this darkening possibly a form of infection or even necrosis? Or is this perfectly normal?
Thank you in advance.

I've seen black spots on the gills of large clams in the wild, but don't know what they are.
