hey everyone I have a small colony of DMs about 5strong and this week they have been melting away for no reason that I can see. params are all good. I know these are hard to grow out hence the price per polyp but what can I do to save them?

I'll wish you luck. I lost 2 frags of them for no reason. Thats just the way they seem to go for some reason.

I personally wish I knew of a solution. Did you move them around when you first got them?

Lots of Zs and Ps have been known to melt. I have friends whom lots VDM's, LunarEclipse, RPE, PPE, NiteMares, Rastas and others not mentioned here just melt away on them. All I know is that as soon as I place them in my tank I just leave them alone for moths on end until I decide to move them throughout the tank. I hope someone here can assist you :burn_joss_stick: I know the feeling, I have seen my the faces of my firends.

I lost 5 polyps of them as well this week.. I have never had luck with them and have no plans of trying again..

You can give campfires a try. They are similar and a buddy of mine has had good luck with them.

I personally found them to be very suseptable to alkalinity changes - slight change and they were closing up. Don't know if that was because of pH changes that resulted or just the shift in alkalinity. I had great growth when I was dripping kalkwasser, as soon as I stopped they started to decline. Just my experience.

I had some over a year ago. I went in on a group buy and got one polyp. They settled in quick, opened that day then multiplied to 4 in no time. Then they stopped multiplying and then started melting away one polyp at a time. I moved them, checked params but could not figure it out. Nothing changed in my tank when they started to melt. Lost them all. Same thing happened to Nightmares I had.

Bought a frag, grew 2 new babies then melted all while in the same spot. Seems alot of us have felt your pain :squigglemouth: GL and I hope they make a come back for you.

man, sorry to hear that. i have about a hundred now. i fragged off about seventy a month ago and i beleive most people who got them said thy melted. i have them in every height in my tank and they do great. i do run kalk so if that helps maybe its the secret.

I've had the best luck with mine in very low light. Anytime I try to move them out of the shade, then poof!

best of luck to you. I would just leave them alone and pray......... I dont think their is anything you can do specifically to save them, just hope and pray. Good luck!
