thought I would get you to look... ;)

anyway, I was just wondering who out there has bought/traded these morphs... they seem to resemble the same characteristics of True Armageddons.. they do very well for a few weeks but breaks your heart when they start closing up... often they end up melting away... :(

I really hope that as a community we'll find a solution to these puzzling and confusing morphs.. personally, I've owned three frags of this morph with different names.. Darth Maul from LFS that got them from ReefRaft, BackDrafts from TEC (reefboy), and recently Saber palys from ZoaNuts...

let's try and solve this mystery.. :)
 
I had some Mauls and they were growing at a good rate. The plug they cam in on had a little hair algae so after a few weeks in the tank I wanted to make sure that the algae did choke them out so I fragged them off and they melted away. :(
 
High flow since ive put them in almost derect flow of my wave maker ive had no loses from fraging(Backdrafts) so this may be the key if they come from surge area's in the reef maybe why one there rarly seen in the hobby as I also assume there harder to collect but just a assumption I'll have a better idea in 6 months.Saprano's I'll let you know on but none are showing signs of fungus or bacteria infections and there in high flow and have yet to lose a polyp so again can give more info in time.As a side note ive cured zoa pox by placing in high flow so this led my assumption that it wouldnt hurt to try my theory on these so far its working time will tell.

i had the darth mauls, or headless horsemen as they were then called, same source as marv.

I bought about 15 polyps, and at one point grew to about 100. Then one day they just shrunk up, and melted into nothingness.

that nearly brought tears to my eyes.

yikes.. 15 polyps to 100 polyps... wow! sorry to hear about the tragedy JR... :(

low light, bluer spectrum, and T-5's.. :)

back to regular programming... :D

my bad...i guess the soprano up there threw me off...i thought they were all different...

I ordered my Darth Mauls from Cherry Corals. I got a 2 poylp frag. One died right after I got them. I now have a whole 5 polyps. Mine are different from all of yours Marvin. My are almost a floresant orange. They are one of my favs just very slow growers.

are sabers a morph of something else? ive never seen them before, but i like them. the atlantis valentines day massacre are a nice red paly. i bought 3 polyps and now have over 20 in 3 months but i am scared to frag thinking they will melt away. figure there has to be a reason they are priced so high.
 
Mine started great and happy then all of a sudden,
closed up and disapeared. I spent days checking EVERYTHING:banghead:
That is when juniors and everyone elses shriveled away.
@least it was not my system.
 
I wonder if these specific morphs are more sensitive to temp swings than other morphs? my tank ranges from 77-78 in the am to 81-82 degrees throughout the day... what's yours?
 
btw, I'm sad to say that my nice frag of BackDrafts have dwindled to 3 single polyp frags.. they just started acting up last week and I decided to frag them up to save the healthy polyps... I'm glad some are hanging on...
