As the title states. I'm setting up a 20g tall for my daughter 24" x 12" x 16" Tall
she has a list of what she would like in her tank but I realize there's limits especially with limited space and equipment. I will be using an Aqueon Quietflow 30 HOB for the time being, will upgrade to a hob skimmer down the road. For a light I will be getting her either the Ocean Revive or Viparspectra. All that said here is her "wishlist" for her tank.
Electric Blue Hermit Crab
Tile or Indian Sea Star
Blood Red Fire Shrimp
Red Tuxedo Urchin
Ultra Blue Maxima Clam
Catalina Goby
Naked Ocellaris Clownfish
Ocellaris Clownfish
Tiger Goby
Royal Gramma
Neon Dottyback
Prawn Goby + Pistol shrimp pr
If there's a good combo of most of these fish that would be great too, please list it here, thanks for reading and for your advice/help.

Thats a lot for a 20 gallon imo.

Some other issues.
Catalina gobies are temperate water not tropical, would not add with tropical fish.
Dotty Backs can be aggressive.
The indian seastar is not an ideal choice for a new tank. Without the buildup of years of biofilms, sponges, algae will starve to death very slowly.

I would limit to 3 fish, perhaps the clown pair and and one small goby or such. Another option is a prawn goby/shrimp pair.

Inverts you dont have the same restraints with, can add multiples perhaps 5 hermits 10 snails. Clam i would also wait till the tank is stable with great lighting.

Great that's pretty much what I already told her, she may just end up with pair of clowns and a goby/shrimp pair + inverts. But I did want to ask here to see if there's some combo that she could get more of what she wants. No worries on my end as I will ultimately be the one doing most of the upkeep and whatnot.

Maybe a
Helfrichi fire-fish(probably misspelled. Get the bold colors of the fish she wanted without the attitude.

Cool, a firefish would be great as well, she was looking at those but the guide said 30 gallon minimum.

That one i can say the guide is wrong [emoji4] One would be fine in a 20.

This morning after going through what will/won't work she has decided on a pair of clowns, neon blue goby (more than 1 would be nice, since they're so small), purple firefish and urchin, hermits, snails and shrimp for cuc

With the Blood Red Fire Shrimp, I have one and it looks awesome, but good luck seeing it out and about. Mine went into a large rock complex
I have and it rarely comes out. Maybe mine is just shy don’t know. My skunk cleaner shrimp, on the other hand, are out 99% of the time and it is really cool to see them set up there fish wash, and watch the fish line up to get cleaned. They look cool - not as cool as fire shrimp given - but you get to enjoy them a lot more in my opinion. Maybe you won’t have same issue in a nano w less places to go/hide (I have a 180).

I will keep that in mind. She isn't really hung up on what type of shrimp, just that she gets a shrimp. I lol'd and told her she'll have more than one shrimp, hermit, snail etc. Explained to her about the job of a clean up crew.

Captive bred Catalina gobies are available from LA fairly frequently. I keep the coldwater ones, and can’t order from LA because they’ve been raised in tropical water. They are by far the brightest colour goby I’ve seen, however they are really boring, cause they perch and don’t swim. However in a 20 you could keep 3 easily.
A yellow clown goby would be good. The firfish is perfect, too. A small sand sifting goby would be interesting. Randall’s gobies with a commensal shrimp?
Grisingeri goby is too expensive for a first tank, probably.

Thank you all for the input so far. I know for a fact she wants an ocellaris clown, naked ocellaris clown for her pair. She does absolutely love watching sand sifting gobies too, saying "looks like a little vacuum".
And LA is the website I showed her to pick out her fish. I just selected beginner marine fish and used the drop down box for 20 gallon. Which probably limited to selection too much. Guessing that's why firefish wasn't on the list for us.

Fire fish are cool but I’ve had no luck so far. Sand sifters same thing - not sure if my tank is too new for it to get enough food.

As mentioned above the Catalina is a no go as they do not do well in conditions that are ideal for tropical reef fish. I'd leave the Royal Gramma and Dottyback off the list as well as a standard 20 would be likely to bring out the aggression. You should be okay with the rest, although urchins and clams should not go in until the tank is well established.

I’ve always thought coral banded shrimp were pretty neat.
Never actually saw mine actively clean fish, but I always saw it any time of day.
Can’t be housed with other shrimp though

My cleaner shrimp periodically does clean my Diamond watchman goby and it is pretty cool to watch as the Goby opens it's mouth really wide for it. I can never seem to catch it on video though.
