Dawn's 36g Bowfront tank

The new fish looks great, glad to hear he's settling in. Looks like the sherrif and nem are doing well too!

The new fish is eating great and seems comfortable but I saw ich on him tonight. That's why quarantining is a good practice. I am nervous but I administered greenex in the tank tonight. Its an old time medicine for ich that used to be considered reef safe. You can't buy it anymore. It has trace amounts of copper so if I had SPS I wouldn't risk it and I should have considered that my clam might not tolerate it. Unfortunately I thought of that after I put it in the tank. I really don't want to lose King Midas, he's so cute and a really sweet fish. Yes, the sheriff and anemone are awesome.

I would keep a close eye on the clam. It may be that there is not enough copper to bother him (NSW does have trace amounts of copper in it) but I would still keep an eye on things and maybe be ready to do a water change if things go south. Not sure at what point trace amounts of copper can turn lethal. Hope you can beat the ich without taking all the fish out.

It'll be ugly if I have to catch him to quarantine. I think I'll buy a 10g tank to quarantine from now on for new fish. I should know better.

I do have a UV sterilizer which helps and it has a new bulb in it. That at least helps stop ich in the free swim stage so it slows the spread of disease.

whoa did i read that right? both the shrimp AND the anemone relocated? Anemones can do that?? Just...move??

Yes they can! If they are not satisfied with their location, not getting enough food, light or don't like the flow they just up and move. They nearly always do it at night and in the morning you find them someplace else. That's how a lot of anemones meet their demise because they move too close to an intake of a power head and get sucked in. Its a good idea to have power heads covered if you have nems. I doubt my curly que is at risk because he and the Sheriff will stay down near the sand.

ouch! I'm glad i dont have powerheads. that sounds brutal. I definitely plan on getting an anemone soon. Probably after I get back from Vegas.

Well, I did keep an eye on the clam and when all the lights came on I didn't like how he was looking. Nothing blaring but he did looked pinched and that is a sign of stress in clams. I called my LFS and asked if he could have a pajama party there for a few days and they said, "sure, bring him over". I actually need about a week to finish the treatment and one day to do a big WC, skim and run carbon before the clam can come back.

Hope all ends well

Yep, me too. Sometimes you do all within your power to bring about the best outcome, but after you've done all you can you just leave it in God's hands. That's where I am now.

Yes, everything is in the hands of God. Will be praying for your tank and that the outcome is the best.

Thank you, that's very nice and I appreciate it because I believe in prayer. I know we don't dictate to God the outcome but I believe that there is always benefit to bringing it before Him. I learned that when my husband got cancer 11 years ago. God healed him but he lost a leg from the knee down. Now its a lot easier to tell people about our faith because Dave has a memorial that they can see. (He's kind of like the bionic man, haha!)

I am going to feel like an idiot for admitting this: last night just as my lights were going out I saw the tomato clown swish his tail in the sand by my welso brain, ( remember I said that infuriated me) and just then King Midas swam past and ended up with white spots all over him! Only its not white spots, its sand!!! Slowly, (although my brain want to deny this thought ) I'm starting to think that King Midas never had ich. And if King Midas never had ich I just put my clam at risk for nothing!!!! How many times have we actually caused harm to one of our animals because of goof intentions, I mean good intentions? (Sounds like a title to a new thread?)

Well at least you found the cause of the problem if that was it and not indeed ich. Better that than risking all your fish to disease.

Shortly after I posted that my lights came on and the blenny does have ich, so I am glad I am treating. I forgot what an emotional rollercoaster tank drama can be! My aquarium has been so stable for so long but it is tough when things aren't stable. None of the other fish are showing any signs so that is good.
